This article helps a moderator understand the implications around renaming in regards to Datasets, Dataset Templates and Data Tables
Please note that modifying Template/Table naming may break existing Insights that have been created using the old naming.
Renaming Datasets
The ability to do this is not currently available in the moderator view, if this is desired please get in touch.
Renaming a dataset will not affect your data or insights as a dataset is not queried upon by it's name, but on a unique key assigned to it on creation that cannot be changed.
Best Practice for Template and Table Renaming
The renaming operations and resulting behaviour described below are current limitations of Data Collection and should be considered when renaming Dataset Templates and Data Tables.
As a best practise it is recommended to settle on the desired naming and data structure before making a dataset available for users to query on.
Renaming Dataset Templates

When you rename a Dataset Template this changes the structure of all of the Data Tables contained within and means that when platform users are querying the data, the category name for the "Template" variable is now the new name that was set.
As a result, any Insights that have been created using the old Template name will no longer function as expected when you try to edit them and will only continue to work correctly directly on the Insight view page where the data will still remain intact in the old format.
Renaming Data Tables
It is possible to modify a Data Table name by clicking Edit Schema on the Dataset Template page.
Renaming a Data Table affects the structure of only the Data Table being renamed and means that when platform users are querying the data, the category name for the "Table" variable is now the new name that was set.
As a result, any Insights that have been created using the old Table name will no longer function as expected when you try to edit them and will only continue to work correctly directly on the Insight view page where the data will still remain intact in the old format.
