Modifying data as a Moderator

This section details how to enter data against Data Tables directly as a Dataset Moderator.

As a Dataset Moderator, you have direct access to the raw data within your Dataset. This allows you to review, correct, or update data where needed, helping maintain accuracy and consistency across contributors.

Because changes are made directly to the source data, this capability should be used thoughtfully and with care.

How to edit raw data

To edit data in a table:

  1. Navigate to the relevant Dataset Template.

  2. In the Tables section, find the table you want to update.

  3. Click Edit Data.

  4. Update the data cells as required.

    • Summed total cells are automatically calculated and will appear greyed out. These cannot be edited directly.

  5. Any unsaved changes will be highlighted.

  6. Click Save to apply your changes.

  7. Ingest your data safely into your dataset.

Copying and pasting data from Excel

You can also paste data directly from an Excel spreadsheet into the data entry table.

To do this:

  1. In Excel, select the cells you want to copy and copy them to your clipboard.

  2. Return to the Data entry page on the platform.

  3. Click the cell that corresponds to the top-left cell of your Excel selection.

  4. Paste from your clipboard.

    • The data will populate automatically into the table.

This approach is especially useful when entering larger volumes of data efficiently, while preserving the table’s structure and validation rules.

Why this matters

Direct access to raw data enables moderators to keep datasets accurate, complete, and ready for aggregation. Careful data management at this level helps ensure insights drawn later are reliable, trustworthy, and fit for reporting and decision-making.
