How to create a Metric chart

A donut-style chart with up to five rings, each representing a single data point, and contextual information displayed in the centre.

When to use a Metric chart

This format is ideal when you need to:

  • Highlight key metrics or KPIs using a clean, minimal circular layout.

  • Display up to five individual values, each as its own ring, to show comparisons at a glance.

  • Focus attention on a small number of key figures without the complexity of category breakdowns.

How to build a Metric chart

Step 1: Select the Chart Type

  • In the Explore Data tool, go to the Build Your Chart step.

  • Under the Type tab, select Metric.

Step 2: Create Metric chart label

  • Navigate to the Custom tab.
  • Enter the text you want to display in the centre of the Metric chart.

💡 Tips for Metric Chart

  • The value of the innermost ring is displayed in the centre of the chart.

  • Which data points are shown depends on the chart table type and structure:

If there is only one chart table:

    • Calculation table (calculation): uses the first row of data.

    • Result table (result):

      • If the column item count is 1 or less: uses the first column.

      • If the column item count is greater than 1: uses the first row.

If there are multiple chart tables:

    • Always uses the first column of each chart table.

  • A Metric chart can display up to 5 data points, with each point represented by a separate ring. If there are more than 5 data points, a warning message will be displayed:
