Dashboard edit locking

Dashboard edit locking is a feature available to all dashboard editors designed to prevent undesirable overwrites or edits on your dashboard

What is Dashboard Edit Locking?

A lock is automatically applied when you start editing your dashboard and is released when you cancel, save, or close your dashboard.

The lock remains active for the duration of your editing session. If you become idle (i.e., you leave your device and no mouse movements are detected), a lock timer will start. The lock will be maintained for an additional 10 minutes of inactivity before being released.

What happens when the idle timer ends?

If another user is not editing your dashboard or has made edits since your lock was released, your lock will be extended. However, if they have, your unsaved changes will be lost.

To avoid losing your work, always remember to save your changes before leaving your desk.

What do other users see when a dashboard is locked?

When a dashboard is locked for editing, other users with edit access will see a banner informing them of the lock. If the editing party is a member of the same or a partner Organisation on the platform, the user will be able to see the name of the person currently editing. Additionally, the 'Edit' button will be disabled for other users until the lock is released.

Why is Dashboard Edit Locking important?

Dashboard locking is crucial as it prevents undesirable overwrites of your changes and protects your editing session from being interrupted by others.

Additional tips for using Dashboard Edit Locking

  • Frequent Saves: Make it a habit to save your work frequently to ensure your changes are preserved.

  • Communication: If multiple team members are working on the same dashboard, communicate your editing schedules to avoid conflicts.

  • Idle Timeout: Be mindful of the idle timeout period. If you anticipate being away from your device for more than 10 minutes, save your work beforehand.
